New India Chaat Cafe in San Jose, CA

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

Last week, I came here for a buffet dinner with a coworker. When we arrived, there is a party. I think it’s some kind of one year old baby birthday party. So, I expect the food must be fresh and great in tasting. Well, we were very disappointed because the chef has made the most simple mistake in cooking. Too much salt has been poured marinating the Tandoori chicken. The saltiness of the dish is between medium to strong. Man, I cannot finish the chicken. I have to tell the boss immediately, and he did not do anything. Fine! This is our last time here. Imagine that you have a party with 30+ guests. And, you, as an owner, do not first perform a food quality check before serving, that’s the biggest mistake an owner or a chef could have made in any restaurant. Tandoori chicken is an important dish in an Indian buffet restaurant. I could see that there are many Tandoori chicken left, and no one bother to go back for more. Besides their failure in the Tandoori chicken, their butter chicken is also NOT as good as, for example, Sangam’s. Anyway, their Tandoori chicken is okay fresh, and their butter chicken is not fresh.

Kaati Fresh in San Jose, CA

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

I have been to Kaati Fresh for three times during lunch. Since I try to eat healthy, I only ordered the vegetarian thaali (USD$5.5). It comes with Biryani rice, soup, vegetables, cream, indian bread (not naan), and etc. I always arrive there with a hungry stomach, and leave with a semi-full stomach which is great. I give an A grade for this. The chef is so great that everything on the dish has its unique taste, and freshness. I think they can be more successful. The only complaint is that it is kind of cold inside as well as at the outside seating.
